Case Stainless Steel 316L
Crafted by Atokalpa from a copper-beryllium alloy, this balance wheel is regulated using four masselottes — small peripheral weights that allow the inertia to be adjusted without changing the active length of the hairspring. Compared to traditional balance wheels with a regulator index, the variable inertia system enables more precise and stable regulation over time, minimizing the impact of shocks or positional changes on the watch’s accuracy. This type of balance wheel is typical of haute horlogerie, where long-term chronometric performance is a top priority.
Split Gear Train
In this system, the transmission of motion is divided into two separate branches: one dedicated to the seconds, the other to hours and minutes. This mechanical separation reduces interference between the gear trains, preventing the continuous motion of the seconds hand from affecting the consistency of the main timekeeping system. The result is greater running stability and more reliable long-term accuracy. A refined approach to movement construction, designed with precision as its highest priority.
Every structural component of the V5000 is crafted from solid brass blocks using high-precision CNC machines. This process allows for the creation of complex geometries and micrometric tolerances, ensuring uniformity and robustness across every part of the movement. Milling begins with raw plates, which are gradually sculpted to reveal the final shape of each component—bridges, mainplates, and more. The quality of this method is evident in the details: crisp surfaces, perfectly aligned holes, and three-dimensional profiles executed with technical precision.
After mechanical machining, each bridge of the V5000 calibre is finished with a radial Côtes de Genève decoration. This technique demands exceptional precision: the optical effect is created by engraving fine, undulating lines in a regular sequence, radiating outward from a central point. Unlike the more common linear finish, the radial pattern requires constant adjustment of the tool and perfect alignment between the surface and its rotating movement. The result is a luminous, dynamic texture that catches the light and enhances the movement’s architecture.
The micro-perlage decoration is hand-applied to the section of the mainplate located beneath the balance wheel—one of the most sensitive and technically crucial areas of the movement. Each circular pattern is engraved individually using a rotating tool, following an overlapping layout that demands steady control, patience, and consistency. This artisanal finishing, performed by skilled craftsmen, not only enriches the surface with a deep, shimmering texture, but also serves a functional purpose: helping to trap micro-particles and protect the movement from potential impurities.
The components of the V5000 caliber passed through chemical nickel plating—a finish chosen both for its technical advantages and its aesthetic alignment with the character of the movement. Compared to rhodium, which has a cooler, bluish reflection, chemical nickel offers a warmer, more neutral tone with a softer, less reflective appearance. Beyond aesthetics, this treatment enhances wear resistance and provides long-lasting protection against oxidation, all without affecting the precise tolerances of each part. After plating, every single component is manually inspected to ensure both visual and functional quality before assembly.
Each V5000 caliber is assembled by hand by master watchmakers in controlled environments using high-precision instruments. This phase demands absolute focus: every component—from the balance wheel to the gear train—is positioned with meticulous care to ensure flawless operation. Once assembly is complete, the movement is finely regulated. Using optical tools and specialized testing equipment, each caliber is calibrated to achieve stable performance within a tolerance of ±3 seconds per day.
